Description

A tutorial on how to line and shade art Sonic Adventure 2 stile! Also, if you use this info to help Please credit me and send me a link to your art work this helped with! Thanks!

Step 1: Load your sketch into a coloring program! I used Gimp, but photoshop or any other program with the same tools will work.

Step 2: Using the Pen tool (I'm not going to explain this tool, ether you know how to use it or you can look it up) line all the negative space with a thicker line, I use 6 pixels wide, but you can use whatever looks right.

Step 3: Still with the pen tool ink the rest of the lines with a something less thick, I used 4 Pexels wide for this. The finer areas such as the eyes you can use even smaller brush for. As you can see I fixed Shadow's shoes so they look right. After your done remove the sketch as you wont be needing it anymore. I suggest you zoom and clean things up with the brush and eraser, I tend to keep spotting flaws in the lines as I start to color, so don't worry if you don't get everything at first.

Step 4: Recolor the background a medium color that's not being used in the picture. it makes it easier to see where you missed. Add the flat color. I put every color in it's own layer and use to brush to fill in space instead of just paint canning the whole thing. It may take longer but it will come out looking a lot nicer and will be easier to shade.

Step 5: I add the lighting. in it's own layer above the colors but below the lines I turn down the occupancy to about 50%, then with the pen tool again I add it to some of the edges where it's needed, it should always go right along the lines. Now the lighting in this stile can be tricky to get a hang of but don't worry you get use to it. It may need to fade out in some places, mostly toward the ends.

Step 6: I put a somewhat darker shad of the color under all the lighted areas with the brush tool, it will look funky at first but the next step will fix that.

Step 7: I use to smug tool to pull out and blend the darker color, be careful not to pull the color out side the lines wile you do this!

Step 8: I add shadows and any like the blush where they are needed. I also put this in it's own layer, and turn the occupancy down to about 30%, since I use black I need to be careful not to get to dark. In this stile you don't want to put too many shadows, as the stile is very bright!

Step 9: Add the background if you want one, I made this one myself, but you can put in clip art or just a color if you want. I also tinted the whole thing orange, to add a sunset effect. I did that by adding another layer over the colors but under the lines, and turning the occupancy down to about 20%, then i pain can the color I want to put a wash over it with.

It's odd to see shadow like that. I can't picture him as the seductive type.
Anyhow
This does not change the fact that this is pretty cool. :nods:
